Uniting Tasmania

Uniting Care Tasmania is now part of Uniting Vic.Tas – the community services arm of the Uniting Church. We are 24 Uniting Church agencies that have come together to combine our resources and experience for greater change in local communities across Victoria and Tasmania.

At Uniting Tasmania we provide a range of services to support vulnerable people to improve their health, wellbeing, and feel included in their community. Our services include early childhood education, emergency relief for people in crisis, and a range of programs to support struggling families across Hobart, Launceston, Ulverstone and surrounding areas.

Child, youth and family

Pregnant and Young Parent Support Program
We offer support to pregnant women and parents under 25 to help them build the skills and knowledge to be the best parents they can be.

Participants can network with others at weekly support groups in Launceston, George Town and Bridgewater with guest speakers, information sessions and social activities available.

Newpin is designed to help break the cycle of abuse and neglect for parents whilst building strong and healthy relationships within families. It’s a centre based program which focuses on parenting skills and the importance of bonding and attachment between a parent and child.

We can connect families with other services such as health care providers and social support services to ensure the assistance they require is available when it’s needed.

Family Futures
This outreach version of the Newpin program is based on parenting, attachment and bonding using the traditional Newpin program framework.  We deliver a flexible, yet tailored program that supports families in the Southern region of Tasmania.

Grandparents Raising Grandchildren
Sometimes it is difficult or impossible for children to live with their birth parents. Grandparents and kinship carers therefore can become the primary carers. Our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren program offers family support, advocacy, information and referral services to grandparent and kinship families across North West Tasmania.

Rural Outreach Support
The Rural Outreach worker program provides case-managed support to families across the Central and Southern Midlands, with a strong focus on creating referral pathways and linkages to local resources and services in isolated areas.

We can provide support in your own home or community, rather than having you travel to us.

Play for Change
Using therapeutic play, we work with children up to 12 years old and their families to address significant behavioural issues and reduce the incidence and impact of mental health.

We acknowledge the relationship between a child’s brain development and their behaviour to help prevent violent, criminal, and inappropriate behaviours occurring

Early Learning

We support children and families to create, learn and grow through high-quality education and care services. Early childhood is a time of exploration, creativity and discovery. We offer long day care in Hobart, family day care/occasional care in Launceston, and before and after school care programs in various locations.

All programs are licensed and accredited with high staff-to-children ratios and qualified and caring staff. Child care benefits are available.

Emergency Relief

We work to empower people with the information, skills and tools they need to live a healthy, happy life.

We provide support to individuals and families in the form of material aid – food, clothing and household goods, back-to-school costs, access to online communication channels, bill payment assistance and financial counselling to people living in disadvantage.

Our Microfinance and No Interest Loan Service (NILS) is available for individuals and families on low incomes facing financial hardship. The no interest loans help them pay for big expenses, such as car repairs, furniture and electrical appliances.
