We stand against family violence.
Family violence is never acceptable.
Providing services to reduce the impact of family violence
There are many forms of family violence.
Uniting is committed to offering a safe and welcoming space for people affected by family violence. We provide services to help reduce the impact of trauma. And we strive to make our services easy to access and navigate.
There are many forms of family violence. These can include physical, financial, emotional, psychological, sexual, cultural, spiritual and institutional. It can also be coercive control.
Family violence can affect people from any background, ethnicity or religion. It can affect people of any age, gender, physical ability, sexual orientation, education or income. And it can happen in any type of relationship, by any gender, and towards any gender.
Family violence is never acceptable. Family violence is always the responsibility of the person using violence. It cannot be excused under any circumstances.
People with lived experience are at the heart of what we do at Uniting. We seek their advice, insights and ideas to help inform how we deliver our services.
We’ve supported thousands of people experiencing family violence. We know each person’s situation is unique. And we understand the barriers people may face when seeking help.
At Uniting:
- You are welcome.
- We honour your right to feel safe and respected.
- We respect you, and your dignity and strength.
- We walk with you and help support you to find safety and stability.
Our approach to family violence
Uniting is aligned with the Victorian Government’s Multi-Agency Risk Assessment and Management (MARAM) Framework which was developed in response to recommendations made to the Royal Commission into Family Violence.
Our workforce undertakes regular training so they can recognise and respond to family violence. They have a shared understanding of family violence risks and the reinforcing factors of gender-based violence.
