Uniting East Burwood
UnitingCare East Burwood is now part of Uniting Vic.Tas – the community services ogranisation of the Uniting Church in Victoria and Tasmania.
We are 24 Uniting Church agencies that have come together to combine our resources and experience for greater change. We work alongside people of all ages in local communities across Victoria and Tasmania. Working together we can do this more effectively for more people.
We provide a range of services, knowing well that life at times, can be complicated. We support families dealing with a breakdown, financial pressures or challenges at home.
Parents can get help developing their parenting skills or providing safe homes for children. We support families trying to improve their relationships. Older people and people with disability can improve their independence, access respite care and build friendships. People experiencing crisis and homelessness can access the support they need to allow them to focus on building brighter days ahead.
We work to empower people with the information, skills and tools they need to live a healthy, happy life. Sometimes it doesn’t take much for bills to spiral out of control. Individuals and families hit with unexpected expenses can quickly see their household budgets overwhelmed. Unemployment, illnesses or even back-to-school costs may leave people unable to pay the bills.
We provide support to local individuals and families in the form of material aid – food, clothing and household goods, back-to-school costs, bill payment assistance and financial counselling to people living in disadvantage.
Tailored to each unique situation, our Microfinance and No Interest Loan Service (NILS) is available for individuals and families on low incomes facing financial hardship. The no interest loans help them pay for big expenses, such as car repairs, furniture and electrical appliances.
Every person has a right to live safe from harm. We work alongside children, youth and families to set goals, develop their skills and strengthen relationships that enable them to thrive. Where staying in the primary home isn’t possible we provide residential care, foster care, kinship care, adoption and permanent care services.
Some of the services we offer for children, young people and families are:
Individuals and families can attend counselling to cope with grief, loss, stress, anxiety or trauma. We also work with families to improve children’s safety and family relationships.
Students facing difficulties at school can work with one of our study buddies to keep up with their schoolwork. Children facing emotional or developmental difficulties are supported to develop skills that will help them grow and learn.
Child centred play therapy – provides counselling for children by using toys in place of words. This program is designed to help children aged between 2-12 years experiencing social, emotional or developmental difficulties.
