For 30 years, the Diversity Project has been supporting LGBTIQA+ youth in Shepparton, making it one of the longest running groups of its kind in regional Victoria.
“The Diversity Project is such an important part of the queer community… being from a regional town it almost feels isolating being a young person and just navigating the world,” past participant Charlie says.
Aimed at young people aged 12-25, the project provides social connect and support for young LGBTIQA+ people in Greater Shepparton and Moira Shire.
“Its all about self-discovery and you get to arts and crafts, eat some food [and] yap about any important things coming up in the queer community,’ says participant Axel, who credits the group for helping to build confidence and “accepting myself fully”.
“Going to Diversity is where I feel most safe” adds participant Ruby. “There is just nothing else like it.”
Watch as Charlie, Axel and Ruby share the impact the Diversity Project has had on their lives.
