Get ready for a celebration like no other as we mark 99 incredible years of op shops— an iconic name born right here in Melbourne!
In the 1920s, Lady Millie Tallis, a former showgirl turned philanthropist, coined the term “op shop” when she opened Australia’s first at the Cyclorama near St Vincent’s Hospital to raise funds for an x-ray department. Her bold idea to sell pre-loved goods to raise funds in an upbeat permanent environment also promoted reuse, inspiring the spread of op shops across Melbourne by the late 1920s.
As op shops across the country count down to our 100 year milestone in November 2025, Uniting Op Shops are celebrating the journey so far with a one-time event at our Brunswick shop.
For 99 minutes only, every preloved item in-store will be just 99 cents*—clothing, accessories, homewares, and more!
When: Thursday, 5th December 2024
Time: 4:21 PM to 6:00 PM (99 minutes only!)**
