Working together, we can:

Services and activities

Komak offers a wide range of services and activities designed to meet the needs of the Afghan community at every stage of life. These include one-on-one support, group programs, cultural and social events, youth engagement activities, family support, school partnerships, and pathways to other Uniting services. Every activity is shaped by community voice and delivered with cultural sensitivity, ensuring that everyone — from new arrivals to long-settled families — feels welcomed, respected, and supported.

Komak provides consultation and cultural support to professionals working with the Afghan community in south-east Melbourne. Through professional consults, practitioners and agency staff can access culturally informed advice, secondary consultation, and guidance on engaging effectively with Afghan clients and community members.

Agencies and organisations can also engage Komak to deliver cultural awareness training, sensitivity training, and tailored capacity-building sessions that deepen professionals’ understanding of Afghan culture, customs, and lived experience. These sessions equip professionals across sectors to engage with members of the Afghan community in ways that are respectful, informed, and effective. Through these consults, Komak acts as a trusted bridge between the Afghan community and the broader service system, ensuring culturally responsive practice and improved outcomes across the sector.
