At 20 years old, Ramadan already has a number of life experiences under his belt.
Having recently finished the School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program with Uniting, Ramadan’s confident and friendly manner has enabled him to quickly advance his skills further, and broaden his horizons considerably with the help of the Uniting Pathways 2 Employment team.
Living with a disability and navigating life outside the safe routine of school can be overwhelming.
When Ramadan joined Pathways 2 Employment in 2022 he initially struggled with the change. The familiarity of school was no longer available, and he had to adapt to being more actively involved in his daily activities. Part of his growth was learning about himself, understanding life skills such as healthy eating, navigating public transport, and learning about voting. More and more he was asked to think for himself and form his own ideas about things.
After he began work placement at a supermarket – and began to develop new skills quickly – the Uniting team encouraged him to apply for a job at the Australian Open.
And he got the job! He was so excited to be part of such a high-profile event, and turn up to his job each day ready to greet the public. The casual role was only two weeks, but it left an impression.
When Ramadan recently transitioned from Uniting SLES to Disability Employment Services he was supported to explore job opportunities, through the recruitment process and provided on the job support. Now in his job at Timber and Rose, he is even more confident about his options in the future, and he knows that he’s capable of growing and developing even further.
Uniting Employment Services continues to support him with fortnightly post placement support meetings to make sure everything is going well and to help him maintain his job for the long term.
And the smile says it all, Ramadan is loving his job.
