Crown Metropol, Melbourne
8 Whiteman St, Southbank VIC 3006
In this 5th annual event, 650 firefighters will “step up to fight depression, PTSD and suicide” by climbing 28 floors of Crown Metropol Hotel wearing 25kgs of turnout gear and breathing apparatus.
This year they aim to raise an unbelievable $700,000 for research and support of mental health services. Half of any funds raised will help ensure that staff and volunteers at Lifeline Melbourne (operated by Uniting Vic.Tas), can cover the phones during peak periods on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.
It will see career and volunteer firefighters come from around Australia and the world to compete. The event simulates the actions of entering a burning high-rise building, so it is exclusively for firefighters in full structural firefighting protective clothing, and wearing Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). Dräger SCBA will be supplied to every competitor in the event.
All funds in support of Lifeline Melbourne, shared with the Black Dog Institute.
