Uniting Op Shops across Victoria and Tasmania.

On World Op Shop Day, Saturday 18 October 2025, Uniting Op Shops are hosting a one-day treasure hunt you won’t want to miss.

This year marks a big milestone, 100 years since the term “op shop” was first coined in Australia.

Across our shops, 100 special items will be up for grabs for just $1 each. Look for the price tags marked with a gold sticker. These high-value treasures are waiting for lucky shoppers to uncover.

In the lead up to the day we’ll be posting hints of the items on our Facebook event page so be sure to follow along.

In the 1920s, Lady Millie Tallis introduced the name “op shop” as a dignified and powerful way to give pre-loved goods a new life while raising funds for St Vincent’s Hospital. Since then, op shops have become a uniquely Australian and New Zealand tradition, blending sustainability, creativity and community impact.

Visit your local Uniting Op Shop on 18 October and see if you can uncover a $1 treasure. Every purchase helps reduce waste, extend the life of clothing and goods, and support community programs.

One day. 100 treasures. $1 each. Celebrate history. Hunt for treasure. Discover the magic of op shops.
