Due to internal damage from a small fire in December 2024, the Welcome Centre is currently closed, but our activities are still running. Some activities are operating from the Uniting offices at 26 Jessie Street, Coburg. Several activities are being held at the Brunswick Uniting Church, 212 Sydney St, Brunswick. The Welcome Centre is a safe and welcoming community space for people seeking asylum in Melbourne.

We offer lots of different activities to help you settle in and find your feet, including:

Activities and opportunities for inclusion and socialisation
English, computer and creative art classes are held at the centre
A community meals program bringing people together to prepare food and share their cultural cuisine with their new community
Excursions for asylum seekers and their families, to experience Melbourne and beyond – the beach, cinema, zoo and parks
Referrals to services and access to practical assistance with food, material aid and transport if needed
A women’s group – a safe and harmonious space for women from all cultures to feel at ease and enjoy each other's company
Connections to the Queer Refugee and Asylum Seeker Peers (QRASP), a safe and supportive space offering advocacy and a feeling of belonging to LGBTIQ+ people.
