Kinship care, fostering family ties.
Personalised support for kinship carers to develop the skills needed for child or youth care.
Kinship care
Keeping children within families.
The Kinship Care program receives all referrals from the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), Child Protection, and provides vital support to relatives and members of a child or young person’s social network who take on the responsibility of care when they cannot live with their parents. When a child’s safety is at risk, or they cannot be reunited with their parents, placement with relatives or kin is the preferred option.
Kinship care allows children to remain connected to family, culture, identity and community.
Designed for children and carers
Access to financial, legal, and community support
Through our program, carers have access to financial, legal, and community support, ensuring they have the resources and tools they need to provide the best possible care for their loved ones.
Our program offers a variety of social activities, including cooking groups and support groups, that enable carers to connect with others and build a
support network.
As a critical part of the child welfare system, we remain committed to supporting relatives and members of a child or young person’s social network who take on the responsibility of providing care.
