Finally, after 10 years on the VictorianHousing waitlist, Evan was offereda property through Uniting.I was very happy when I heard the news.Im very lucky I got this place, he said.Now settled in his Uniting home, Evan seesthe positive impact this new found stabilityhas had on his life.Straightaway, I found stability and I felthappier. I felt like my life was back on track.Evas story.Its been very good for my mental health. To Eva, freedom means living withoutWith my own space, Im more in control fear and having the chance to buildof my life, said Evan. a better life.Its nice to have support from Uniting and Eva and her family came to Australia seeking a bit of community around here. Im starting asylum when their country of origin, Ukraine, to get to know people here, I feel like Imwas no longer safe. They needed a place starting to settle down. where they could live without fear, and they found that in Australia.Their early days in Australia were challenging, but they received vital support from Unitings Asylum Seeker Welcome Centre and their local church community who provided food, shelter, and a sense of belonging.
