Innovative traineeships program

A chance to grow your workforce or start a career in Disability Services

The Discover Opportunity Innovative Traineeships program is an exciting new initiative that will enable trainees to study a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) while gaining hands-on experience working in an organisation committed to supporting people with a disability.

Are you located in Melbourne West and looking to expand your disability support workforce?

The disability services industry is growing at a rapid pace. The Innovative Traineeships program set up by Victorian Council for Social Service (VCOSS) and Victorian State Government Education and Training can help by supporting you through recruiting, training and supervising a trainee.

Trainees will be employed by your organisation as they do a 12-month traineeship, working two to four days in the workplace and undertake a Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability) with Victoria University (VU) Polytechnic one day per week.

Along the way, your supervising staff and the trainee will have access to support including regular visits from VU, access to resources such as supervision manuals, and a local project coordinator employed by Uniting.

A traineeship can help you grow your own workforce to better suit your organisation’s unique needs.

The program is open to community, health services or local government agencies able to support a trainee through either disability specific services or more general community services programs.

Additional support and incentives include:

  • Trainee recruitment managed by Uniting
  • On-the-job support from Uniting and MAS National Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider
  • $400 to assist with supervision training
  • Potential eligibility for additional Commonwealth subsidies and incentives depending on the individual circumstances of the trainee.
